Easton,
Mass. – It was going to be quite a tall task. Last year’s
Enterprise Rent-A-Car Annual Charity Golf Tournament set a new
record by raising $25,000 for Special Olympics MA (SOMA)
athletes and events. To top that amount this year would take a
lot of hard work.
Apparently a
lot of hard work was done by Enterprise Rent-A-Car because at
the 8th annual charity golf tournament on June 19,
more than $35,000 was raised to benefit SOMA. The money raised
through the tournament will help to fund training and
competitions for local SOMA athletes in Southeastern
Massachusetts.
The event
has been increasing in size and popularity each year. This year,
the event was sold out and there was a full field of 144
golfers. The golfers added even more fun and excitement to their
day by competing for big prizes at six different holes. They
were also trying their luck for a hole-in-one off holes #6, #14
and #16. A hole-in-one would have won them a brand new car
courtesy of The Center for Automobiles, Frost Cadillac and the
BMW Gallery of Norwell respectively.
The chance
to interact directly with the people they were raising money to
help was presented to the golfers as well. Amanda Church, SOMA
athlete, intern, and Global Messenger from Easton, was there to
welcome each golfer before tee off. Also, they had the chance to
meet SOMA golf athlete Sean McKenna, who challenged each golfer
to a closest-to-the-pin contest on hole #4.

Sean
McKenna, a SOMA golf athlete, sizes up a shot on the 4th
fairway at
Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s 8th annual charity
golf tournament on June 19.
