Fall Season is in Full Swing but Missing a True Leader Another season of competition is in full swing with the Fall Sports Season talking place. We’ve seen a number of events across the Bay State and with our annual soccer tournament just around the corner on November 6 and Flag Football and Cheerleading at Gillette in a couple weeks, another chapter in fall sports is about to close. But not without some great competition. We saw an incredible Senior Sports program and once again, a stellar Equestrian season. But not without an incredible hole left in it. The 2011 Equestrian Season was dedicated to longtime Equestrian Director, Barbara DeNitto, who passed away last winter. She was instrumental in bringing the sport of equestrian to athletes in the Commonwealth. Her vision founded SOMA’s equestrian program where she helped guide and interact with riders for over 20-years. Many of the athletes she coached participated in the Special Olympics International Games. Barbara will be truly missed. The 2011 Annual Soccer Tournament will feature over 115 soccer teams comprised of Special Olympics athletes and Unified Partners on Sunday, November 6th at Governor’s Academy in Byfield. Over 350 student-volunteers from Governor’s Academy will take an active part in organizing the annual soccer tournament and contribute to the overall success of the event.
