Yawkey Sports Training Center

The 25,000 S/F Yawkey Sports Training Center not only serves as the official headquarters of Special Olympics Massachusetts but will also be utilized to learn, research and address the unique healthcare needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities through a unique partnership with UMass Medical School of Worcester. The Center has a full-size gym, a 40 X 30 yard soccer field, computer training facilities, video conferencing capabilities, and five multipurpose conference rooms. The Yawkey Sports Training Center:

Special Olympics Massachusetts’ Yawkey Sports Training Center is a state-of-the-art office and training center located right in the heart of Massachusetts and New England. Marlborough is less than a 90 minute drive for 90% of the population of Massachusetts. The training rooms, gymnasium and outdoor soccer field will provide us with the very best coaches training facility in all of Special Olympics. The office space will provide our outstanding staff with brighter, healthier surroundings in which to work. The Yawkey Center will also play a major role in our soon to be GREATLY expanded Healthy Athletes Initiative.

Yawkey Sports Training Center Gold medals and Summer Games are only a small part of what Special Olympics Massachusetts offers to the 10,708 athletes statewide. Through our organization, those with intellectual disabilities gain courage and confidence, create invaluable friendships and share incredible experiences with volunteers, coaches and family members. Our athletes learn life long lessons and become productive members of society. Through our year-round programs and health education, Special Olympics athletes realize all that they can do.

But the impact of our movement is still affecting just a small percentage of people in Massachusetts with intellectual disabilities.

In order to grow our movement and mission, increase athlete numbers and make a life changing impact on those with special needs, Special Olympics Massachusetts has launched The Campaign for a New Home: a campaign to raise $10.8 million for the construction and development of a 25,000 square foot state-of-the-art headquarters and training center in Marlborough named the Yawkey Sports Training Center.

Moving to a new home will enable us to enhance our efforts in reaching out to all those with intellectual disabilities in the pursuit of a lifetime of inclusion, acceptance and joy.

The Yawkey Sports Training Center will offer:

* High-tech training rooms for coaches, volunteers, athletes, medical professionals

* Full court gymnasium and athletic fields

* Hall of Fame wall that showcases generations of athletic accomplishment

* Special meeting area dedicated to health screenings for athletes and training of health care professionals

* Space for public and private special events

* Ample storage space for equipment and supplies

* Conference and meeting rooms

* Expanded and efficient workspace and offices for staff
