Champions for 50:
Appleton Partners & Jay Nothnagle
Appleton Partners, Inc. and Special Olympics athlete, Jay Nothnagle are Champions for 50. Appleton’s connection to Special Olympics was borne from their involvement with the Polar Plunge fundraising event at Nantasket Beach. Members of Appleton’s wealth management team joined forces with Jay and his South Shore Mariners local Special Olympics program to raise money and increase awareness. Throughout the past six years a friendship has grown between Jay and his Appleton teammates. Because of their experience, this partnership will be expanding to include the Brokers and Beanbags Unified Cornhole tournament, an awareness building and fundraising event in Boston. Appleton Partners has seen firsthand how inclusive fundraising can spread the mission of Special Olympics, not only because of the dollars raised, but because of the connections forged between athletes and those new to the organization.
The financial support gained through the growing inclusive fundraising model will allow Special Olympics Massachusetts to find and engage more athletes throughout the state. With a strategic focus on building a continuum of service in all communities served, individuals with intellectual disabilities will be able to participate as Young Athletes, take part in school-based programs, compete in Unified Sports at the high school level, and join a community program that will provide athletic opportunities throughout their lives. Because of the partnership between Appleton and Jay, more people with intellectual disabilities will be able to shine on and off the field of play.
