Coming to Marlborough: Tournament of Champions

September 16th 2015, Mayor Arthur Vigeant announces Marlborough to host Tournament of Champions.

Marlborough is a hub of growth in Metro West. With all of the resources our community provides, we are excited to host our largest summer season sports event in and around Marlborough. Beginning in 2016, the Special Olympics Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (formerly August Tournament) moved from Western Massachusetts to the greater Marlborough area. With the assistance of the Marlborough Mayor’s office, Marlborough Economic Development Committee and local business partners including Avidia Bank, the annual gathering of over 1,000 athletes from across the state along with their coaches, families and friends will descend upon greater Marlborough for the weekend. We look forward to adding partners in the surrounding towns including restaurants, community groups and the schools.

Athletes from all corners of Massachusetts will compete in the season ending tournaments in bocce, cycling, golf and softball at some of the best venues available.

Dates: August 26-27, 2017

All event information is available via the SOMA ONLINE CALENDAR.

Thanks to our wonderful community relationships, sporting events were held at the following venues:

Athletes will be housed at local hotels: If you are interested in working with us, please click here for more information.

Get Involved – Join the Team!

This brand new event is a great way to get involved with a local sports organization. We are proud to call Marlborough home and cannot wait to partner with our community. If you are an individual looking for a worthwhile volunteer opportunity, a youth group leader or HR director interested in ways to connect your people, please contact us to learn about all the ways you can get involved.

We rely on approximately 500 volunteers to support 1000 athletes as they compete in softball, bocce, cycling, and golf. These volunteer roles are wonderful opportunities to support, cheer-on, encourage and congratulate the athletes as they compete and showcase all of their hard work and training. Volunteer roles include:

  • keeping time_MG_6965-X3 2

  • medical volunteers.
