Senior Sports Classic

Special Olympics Massachusetts is proud to host this unique event which caters to athletes over the age of 40 who train and compete in the lifetime sports of bocce, horseshoes, golf skills and race walking. The annual tournament is held in one of New England’s most popular vacation spots: Cape Cod. Festivities begin on Friday evening with the Opening Ceremony at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa in Hyannis, followed by a dinner, the highly-anticipated dance and other entertainment.

On Saturday, competitions will take place at Barnstable High School where athletes, volunteers and spectators will enjoy BBQ thanks to the Parrot Head Club of Eastern Massachusetts.

Healthy Athlete screenings at Olympic Town will also be available to athletes in between competitions. Upon completion of competition, all athletes will receive awards.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed to assist with competition venues on Saturday, 10/18 at Barnstable High School.

Specific jobs include:

  • Bocce Official (Some bocce knowledge encouraged.)
  • Bocce scorekeeper and timer.
  • Horseshoes volunteer – Assist venue director with score keeping and measuring throws.
  • Golf volunteer – Assist venue director with various golfing skills contests.
  • Track volunteer – Assist venue directors with timing, score keeping and escorting athletes from staging area to competition and then awards.
