Hampshire County Local Programs

Hampshire County

Hampshire County is home to 250 athletes and two local programs. Please click on the sport you are interested in below to see when and where it is offered. If you live in a town bordering another county, the local program closest to you may not be listed below. Please check the other counties for additional local programs: Berkshire, Franklin, Worcester, and Hampden.

*Unless noted otherwise, all sports are intended for athletes ages 8 and up – exceptions include Young Athletes (2-7) and Senior Sports (40+)

Aquatics

Aquatics is part of the Spring Season which runs from late March through early June. Please note all interested swimmers must be able to swim already. Below is a list of local programs that offer aquatics and when practices normally occur: 

  • Amherst – Saturday mornings starting in March. Recommended for athletes 8 years or older.
Basketball

Basketball is part of the Winter Season which runs from early November/late December through early March. Below is a list of where practices are and when they normally occur: 

  • Northampton – Friday evenings starting in December. Recommended for athletes 8 years or older.
  • Amherst – Saturday mornings starting in December. Recommended for athletes 8 years or older.
Bocce

Bocce is part of the Summer Season which runs from mid June through early August. Bocce is offered in three different formats: Singles, Traditional Doubles, and Unified Doubles. Below is a list of where practices are and when they normally occur: 

  • Easthampton – Practice time/location TBD in spring of 2016. Recommended for athletes 8 years or older.
Bowling

Bowling is part of the Winter Season which runs from late November through early March. Bowling is offered in two different formats: Traditional Singles and Unified (pairs). Below is a list of where practices are and when they normally occur: 

  • Northampton – Saturday mornings starting in December. Recommended for athletes 8 years or older.
Cheerleading

Please note that cheerleading is not an official competitive Special Olympics Sport – it is a demonstration sport, so there are no competitions during the season. Below is a list of where practices are and when they normally occur: 

  • Holyoke – Saturday afternoons starting in September. Recommended for athletes 15 years or older.
Flag Football

Flag Football is part of the Fall Season which runs from early September through mid November. Flag Football is only offered as a Unified team sport. Below is a list of where practices are and when they normally occur: 

  • Holyoke – Saturday afternoons starting in September. Recommended for athletes 15 years or older.
Floor Hockey

Floor Hockey is part of the Winter Season and the season runs from early November/late December through early March. Below is a list of where practices are and when they normally occur: 

  • Easthampton – Thursday evenings starting in December. Recommended for athletes 8 years or older.
Soccer

Soccer is part of the Fall Season which runs from early September through mid November. Below is a list of where practices are and when they normally occur: 

  • Amherst – Saturday mornings starting in September. Recommended for athletes 8 years or older.
Track and Field

Soccer is part of the Spring Season which runs from early April through mid June. Athletes can register to compete in either two races/walks, two field events, or one of each. They also can register to compete in one relay. Below is a list of where practices are and when they normally occur: 

  • Amherst – Saturday Mornings starting in April. Recommended for athletes 8 years or older.
  • Easthampton – Thursday nights starting in April. Recommended for athletes 8 years or older
Volleyball

Soccer is part of the Spring Season which runs from early April through mid June. Below is a list of where practices are and when they normally occur: 

  • Easthampton – Thursday evenings starting in April. Recommended for athletes 15 years or older.
