Virtual Summer Games FAQ

What's the season timeline?
Practice begins on May 1st, 2020. Make sure to submit your results before Friday, May 29th, 2020. The Virtual Summer Games video will be available on June 13th, 2020.
Who can compete?
Anyone! You can be a Special Olympics MA athlete, young athlete/partner, Unified Partner, coach, volunteer or family member
Who am I competing against?
Since we’re all at home in different circumstances, you’ll be competing against yourself! You can practice a challenge as many times as you need to get your personal best, and as long as you submit your results you’ll be a part of our athlete honor roll.
Can I still compete if I don't usually play a spring season sport?
YES!  This is open to anyone that is interested and is currently registered as Special Olympics Massachusetts athlete, young athlete/partner, Unified partner, volunteer or coach.
How do I practice?
Our top priority is that everyone is safe and maintains social distancing rules while practicing. Practice at home or in a space that still allows you to follow social distancing rules (you must be six feet away from other individuals). You can also check out the Virtual Performance Station to hep you get ready to compete!
Do I need equipment to participate?
Most challenges don’t require any equipment. Some challenges require items like a tennis ball or racket.  Please don’t go out to the store and purchase equipment. Use what you have and don’t be afraid to get creative!
Do I need to fill out paperwork to participate?
You do not need to fill out any paperwork to participate. But if you’d like to be included in our athlete honor roll please submit your results here.
Will I be disqualified if I don't run the correct distance or do a challenge for the right amount of time?
No, we understand that everyone is doing their best and everyone’s at home event set up is different than others.  We are more interested in everyone participating and giving their honest effort and attempt.  This a non-competitive challenge, so while we want you to do your best. The priority is participation and exercise.
What results do I need to submit?
The results for each challenge are different. Some are time-based and some are measurements. Please visit the Challenges page to see what results you submit for each challenge.
Will I get a medal?
Unfortunately due to the current situation we will not be handing out medals, but you will be a part of the athlete honor roll, to be broadcast on our Facebook and YouTube accounts on June 13th, 2020. All participants will receive a certification for being a part of the 2020 Virtual Summer Games
