2022 USA Games Frequently Asked Questions
What are the qualifications to apply?
Athletes must be 16 years or older (at the time of the games) in order to attend the games, win a medal at a previous state level event, be able to travel independently for at least 6 hours via air and bus, and be able to live independently with minimal supervision
Who can nominate athletes?
Anyone can nominate athletes, including themselves, parents, guardians, coaches, etc.
Is there a minimum age for an athlete to apply?
Athletes must be 16 years or older (at the time of the games) in order to attend the games.
What are the next steps after I submit my completed application?
After the application deadline on May 3rd, Special Olympics Massachusetts will review all athlete, team and coach applications. A random draw will be publicized to fill the available Delegation spots and alternate spots to become members of Team Massachusetts. Once the athletes and alternate athletes are chosen, the Team Massachusetts Head of Delegation will organize interviews with all selected athletes and family members to discuss next steps.
What additional information should I include with my application?
Feel free to include any background information about the applying athlete/team, such as previous Special Olympics experiences, medical requirements, etc. Anything that you believe might be helpful for Special Olympics Massachusetts staff members to know.
