Pre-K Elementary School Memorandum of Understanding

This memorandum is a formal expression of your school’s commitment to inclusion, acceptance, and respect of all students through the implementation of Unified Champion Schools. Students and teachers will make efforts to continually improve as an inclusive community, especially for students with intellectual disabilities (ID). Students with and without ID will be empowered to lead the efforts to improve the climate at your school with teacher and administrative support.

Liaisons appointed by each school will be responsible for:

  • Communicating with Special Olympics MA staff throughout the school year.
  • Completing a mid-year and end of year survey on the Special Olympics MA website.
  • Complete an annual survey via UMass Boston to help support Unified Champion School programming.
  • Set up check-in meetings with the SOMA schools staff as needed.
  • Submit a roster of students participating in Unified Sports during the school year.
  • On the rosters,we require name,date of birth, gender and if the student is an athlete (individual with an intellectual disability) or unified partner (individual without an intellectualdisability).

$500 grant award

With a 3 year commitment to being a Unified Champion School

Your school will be provided a $500 stipend for the first two years, with the expectation of being self-sustaining by year three. Within the first 2 months of you signing and submitting the application, we will send a $500 check addressed to your school. Grant money is limited to the following:

• Young Athletes & Unified PE equipment
• T-shirts for celebration events
• Branded signage & Spread the Word: Inclusion posters
• Additional curriculum books
• After-school program stipends
• Transportation costs

Unified Game Day Ribbons & Medals

Upon request, Young Athletes ribbons can be provided for students participating in a Unified Young Athletes celebration day.

Participation medals can also be provided for students participating in a Unified PE celebration day.
